The player may elect to do this on any hand he desires, and is allowed to make his bet double the original amount. Then he is dealt one and only one card. If it turns out that his hand beats that of the dealer, he wins the amount of his doubled bet.

Another strategy that is allowed during a hand is splitting pairs. Whenever a player has been dealt a pair, he may separate them into two hands and play each hand on its own. He also places a bet on the second hand equal to his original bet. This gives the player two hands to play and therefore two chances to win.

Like any other game of chance, blackjack requires discipline as well as knowledge if one is to have any chance at success. While blackjack betting strategy can be quite complex, it is useful if one wishes to have a competitive edge over the dealer. Of course, no method or strategy is a guarantee of winning, and therefore one would not be advised to play with money one is not ready to lose.
